View Full Version : A Diet of Liquid Gold

Just spent some time clarifying two pounds of butter to use in my protein shakes and found the process to hold an unexpected meditative aspect.

I really enjoyed the time and going slowly seperating the liquid gold from the whey, water and milk solids in butter. All ready used a couple tables spoons of this first batch in a shake and it added a frothy richness to it.

I have a feeling that this addition to my diet will add quite a bit of healthy energy to my work capacity.

Working on a new experimental diet revolving around the three main aspects of an "Indian Wrestler's" diet, Milk, Ghi (clarified butter), and Almonds. As I've stated before, I think there is a lot to learn from those who excel in any given area. The "Indian Wresters" of old, were world renowned for strength, endurance, and ability.

So I'm basing my protein shakes around milk, clarified butter, and almond butter. To this I add a scoop of designer whey, 1 raw egg and a tablespoon of Flax seeds. and depending on the time of day and whether or not the shake is being eaten pre or post workout, I'll add a handfull of mixed berries, wheat bran, a teaspoon of honey, pinch of cinamon etc.

I have a feeling that this may not go over well with either those listing the dangers of dairy or those suggesting the whole food aproach, but luckily for you your not eating it  . I respect and agree with your ideas, I only list this to show that I like to deliberately re-evaluate what works for me.

I invite you all to view my diet log to see how this works for me, and give you ideas for exploring your own dietary needs and goals.

Also, as always, I welcome critique, suggestion, and question from the tribe. Why else would I bring this up.

Man....the thread title tricked me. I though that was gonna be nifty post on the all beer diet.

Coach,

Very cool. I assume you've read "The Wrestler's Body" and got it from there. Interesting experiment, and I don't see how it could really hurt you. Given your eye for detail in tracking performance it will be interesting to see if you percieve a drop or gain attributable to the diet. I here chocolate Designer Whey protien was the favorite in the wrestling pit. Will there be pics of you wearing the big wrap daiper, so popular back in the day?

Beer pancakes. *sigh* Sounds like I need to return to Oz to "suffer" through the indigenous cuisine again.

Hey Doug,

What is your measure of success with this process? Just so you know if you are getting change in the direction that you want?

I personally dig it and want to hear back as you go! I think you'll have a heck of a time trying to sell it on the the morning news shows though...

Bob, the only beer I drink is black with an ice-cream-thick head :D and has to cross an ocean to get to either of us.

You have got me more than a little interested in these beer pancakes though

Bill, I pretty much memorized the chapter, "Discipline of the Body" from that book. The one thing I'm watching out for is the giant pot belly that seemed to accompany the older wrestlers. So I'm not taking their equation between Ghi consumption and strength too seriously. Also, making sure to be even more active through the day, to use the large amounts of energy that I'm getting from these foods.

Scott, I've got photos of you that don't need to be photo-shoped to be embar-ass-ing so be careful :P

Vince, you bring up a good point. I don't yet have a specific goal for this diet. Just want to see if it shows effects that are most likely related to it. And how those effects apply to my training goals. I will put some thought into this though and come back with some goals, general and specific. If you've got ideas then I'm more than open to them.

Thanks for you input guys! Just what I'm looking for.

what is clarifying?

Jimmy,

Clarifying is a process of removing the whey, water, and milk solids (among other things) from butter (unsalted). The result is clarified butter, which can be used for cooking at higher temperatures than regular butter, and was highly reguarded as a source of strength and vitality among Indian Wrestlers.
