hi every one........
on march 19 i competed in a grappling tournament with out preparing for it physically or tecnically... the idea was to see how far i can push it Psychologically . In preparation for the tournament I focused on breathing and mobility exercises. The tournament followed a robin format which means every one rolls with all the guys in his weight class, and there are no point if you submit your opponent you get 3 points if you draw each gets 1 point and if you lose you get 0 point the guy with the most points win. My weight class had 8 guys, which means I had 7 matches. I withdraw after my fifth match because I did enough damage to my body at that point

My observations from this experiment:
1-After the first mach I was pretty much 80% done physically.
2-I was able to stay in good shape mentally using normalizing breathing after each match, but it didn’t really help physically.
3-When you have no strength the flaws in you game start to show up. Because you have nothing to hide them with.
4-The pain is on as soon as the match was over, but it didn’t feel that bad while I was grappling.
5-When you are really gassed if you want to keep going you have start playing it smart rather than playing a game of who is the strongest.
6-I could of kept on grappling till the end of the tournament, you don’t now how much your body is hurting until you start cooling down.
7-After the tournament was over it took me an hour and a half to stop shaking and be able to think straight. It’s almost like having a really bad fever.
8-Today march 22 my body is still sore.
9-Most important lesson ‘ you could get through any thing with breathing”

Thanks to every one on this forum for sharing their knowledge .

and by the way out of the five matches i had i won two lost one and drawed on two.

Mohammed,

That is really awesome. What a great attitude to go in to the tournament not focused on winning, but on discovery. Sounds like you learned a lot!

Fantastic report, i guess it was an eye opening experience. Where do you see your development heading now?

In regard to the DOMS, get to work on your warrior wellness . You could also try epsom salt baths followed by some cryo therapy. And if your finances can stretch to it maybe get a massage?

If there is a local massage school in your area - offer your body as a practice aid to the students = FREE MASSAGE! :D

Kindest Regards

This is an example for everyone to follow. Combat sports focused on exploratory discovery rather than fixation upon winning is the sole reason for 'competition' from an RMAX approach.

Well done!!!

Cool stuff, Mohammed! 8) 8) 8)

Every match is a new learning experience. I've had the most competition success when I've decided to have fun and see what I could learn in each match. Some of the matches I remember most fondly were ones I lost, but where I learned the most.

Of the matches I won, I best remember those where I had an unexpected insight and improvised something I'd never tried before to get the win. Seeing the look on my opponent's face as I applied the "new" move was icing on the cake as they reached to tap. The bits of paper, plastic and metal I've collected afterward pale in comparison to the memories, and are currently lying in a drawer somewhere.
