Hi, my name is Steven Turner. I am currently in possesion of body-flow, a 24k Kettlebell, a 16k Kettlebell, and have watched the Softwork DVD. I ordered the Fisticuffs series today, but as I am in Japan, it may be some time before I actually see it. I meet on Saturdays with a Bujinkan teacher who has more experience than I do with Coach Sonnon's material and approach, and another gentleman who is, like myself, a relative newcomer to the tribe. We have met twice, and the focus seems to me to be softwork. I would like to start a daily blog, as recommended by Coach Sonnon, but am unsure how to arrange my schedule. My current training program is as follows, although I vary loads, reps, and drills in an attempt to constantly challenge my chemical/physical/neural system. My emphasis is on toughness, in the sense of being able to perform when my chemistry is not ideal (for example, when I am tired, a bit sore, hungry, full, etc.), more than on peak performance, as I am not involved in competition of any kind at this time. I do not have a training partner (or very much more time than I am currently using) from Sun-Fri. Saturday is the day I train with the other two Tribe members.
Workout 1 (Sun/Tue/Fri) Pavel's Joint Rotations (henceforth PJR-Warrior Wellness is on my list, but I do not have it yet)
hand kicking (front and side) X10
1 arm pullups X3
Pistols X5
Ab Wheel to max extension from standing (about face level) x3
Snatch/clean/jerk (Sun/Tue/Fri) 24K 20-20-15-15-10-10-5-5, no rest, beginning with left hand
2 Min rest
Jerk/snatch/clean (Sun/Tue/Fri) 16K, as above reps.
Isometric front splits 2min
Butterfly stretch, 1 min
toe touch 1 min
Start to finish is about 1 hour, 15 min.
Workout 2:
PJR
hand kicking (as above)
1 arm/1 leg pushups X5, left first
Turkish get-ups 24k by 20, no rest, pass KB from hand to hand each rep
Turkish get-ups 16k by 30, as above
explosive clapping body-weight pushups on knuckles by 30, no rest
stretching, as above.
Start to Finish is about 1 hour
I am unsure how to incorporate Body-Flow into this workout (before/after/during), and also the drills from Fisticuffs.
I feel that my current weakness is what my Genbukan Sensei once referred to as a 'Jumpy Spirit'. Although I have a lot of energy, and rarely feel week, I also rarely feel calm, and have trouble doing softwork in a cooperative way. I am very happy with my strength and explosiveness, but less so with my balance, centeredness, and overall peace of mind.
I would really appreciate any help the senior members of the Tribe could give me in designing a program with the less-than perfect situation and tools at hand. Thank you all very much in advance.
With respect and sincerity,
Steven Turner
P.S.:
I want to make it very clear that, although my current schedule is obviously based largely on Pavel Tsatsouline, and I value what I have learned from him, it is my sincere intention to adopt the RMAX methodologies, both martial and CST, into my training, as I feel that they are, in fact, superior from an objective standpoint. The fact that I have not yet done so completly has to do with finance and ignorance, not choice.
