Due to the continued evolution of the CST Instructor Certification Program, the requirements have been revised and posted to: CST Instructor Certification Registration Page (http://www.circularstrength.com/cbcert.html).

They are as follows:

What are the Requirements for the Privilege of CST Instructor Certification?

General Physical Preparation BEFORE the seminar

Be able to perform before the seminar 3 sets of 12 repetitions with a rating of technique (RT) of 6 or higher on a scale of 1-10 (10 being 'perfect form') each of the basic exercises from the Clubbell Training for Circular Strength DVD (http://www.circularstrength.com/cborder.html) (not the Combination Routines). You may administer this self-test over as long a time as you wish, but all sets of each exercise must be performed at once (i.e. 3 sets of 12 reps of arm cast one day, and 3 sets of 12 repetitions of front pendulums the next.) The goal of this self-exam is to prepare the general endurance, strength and form (breathing, movement and structure) for participating in the seminar.

Also be prepared with an experience of Body-Flow, Warrior Wellness and Be Breathed DVDs (http://www.circularstrength.com/cborder.html), as well as having read through the CST Magazine (http://www.circularstrengthmag.com).

Certification Expectations DURING & AFTER the seminar

You are always being tested; some fail. It is not a 'pay for certification' seminar. To receive CST Instructor Certification you must successfully complete and maintain the following four examinations:

I. CST Physical Competency Examination: (administered at seminar)

[list:925785aa4c]1. The performance of all basic Clubbell Training exercises, Body-Flow exercises (featured in the CT4CS and Body-Flow DVDs respectively), and all Warrior Wellness joint circle movements, with a rating of technique (RT) of 8 or higher (on a scale of 1-10; 10 being perfect form) in breathing, structure, and movement. Basic exercise refers to those individual techniques which are not combination routines (Clubbell® training) and are not kinetic chains (Body-Flow).

2. The ability to craft (at the event from a random exercise selection), perform and explain (the constituent connections) a combination routine (Clubbell® Training) and kinetic chain (Body-Flow) with a flow of RT8 or higher.

3. The ability to score half of the points required for Class III distinction in International Clubbell® Sport in 5 minutes of Mills and 5 minutes of Swipes with a 5 minute break in-between.
II. CST Client Interview, Poise Analysis and Program Design Examination:

(explained and administered during the seminar)

III. CST Written Examination:

You have 3 months from the conclusion of the seminar to complete and submit your examination by email, which will accompany your instructor candidate manual. The Written Exam is revised every seminar, so do not expect to be able to use prior questions.

IV. CST Instructor Monthly SIT-REP Examination:

Certification is contingently granted upon successful completion of the above three exams. Certification remains active so long as instructors check in to the CST Instructor Forum and post a monthly situation report (SIT-REP) of their personal practice and/or professional training. If one month lapses without a SIT-REP, certification is forfeited. A Personal Training Blog and/or an RMAX Training Group Blog will be an acceptable substitute for a CST Instructor Monthly SIT-REP, though activity on the CST Instructor forum is also encouraged.[/list:u:925785aa4c]

Same question on the women's side.

The weight used for the seminar (on average, 15s for beginning men, 10s for beginning women) is acceptible. 25s are only for competition.

Coach,

Can men complete the requirement with 10 ibs clubbells?
I have felt the 15's before but don't have access to a pair.

Thanks,

Aaron

I'm with you Steven - the more I learn about the standards of becoming a CST instructor and the more CST instructors I'm exposed to, the more this certification appeals to me. Too often to many certifications are of the "pay for title" types with few requirements other than handing out the coin and showing up. I very much resent wasting my time and money with that kind of 'training'.

The instructors I'm referring to are ConnieOR and JasonE - both are top notch. I'm very impressed by their ability to identify/correct problems and be able to teach effectively, whether in person or via video tape and written instructions. If they are representative of CST instructors, it speaks volumes about the CST certification program.

Kind words indeed Kelly! So pleased that you are enjoying yourself. It's an honor for me to have YOU let US into your process. I just love your athleticism, work ethic, willingness to listen. It's very fun to watch.

Kelly - Thank you for the kind words!  :D Since a coach's ability to help is contingent on the athlete's willingness to learn, I hope you give yourself a liberal helping of positive feedback too! I look forward to seeing you again at future clinics and the Midwest ICS Regionals. :D
