View Full Version : Question about OCS rules

Coach, I just want to make sure I understand the rules on the Mill. Can we really alternate between arms in between as long as we don't return the clubs to park? For example, could we do 10 on the left, then switch to the right side and do 10 on the right, and then switch back to the left and so on? The reason I ask is that during my training this morning (which I will be posting to the new forum later tonight) I did kind of a test. Using the 15's and switching sides every 10 repetitions, I did 100 each side with no park and no rest with an RPE of about 6. If I try to do it continously one side then the other...well let's just say the results are GREATLY reduced. The BASACS after a 10 minute rest completely embarrassed me and I could only get 1 set of 30.

Brandon,
just curious which Clubbells you were using for the BASACs (Swipe).

Brandon,
You're right on. You can alternate hands as often as you wish, even between single reps. However, each time you alternate hands, you burn juice (even though with proper technique you can discharge arm-pump, which wreaks havoc on performance.) You're scored on the arm with the least number of reps. The "multiplied by two" was a typo regarding a previous explanation and has been edited.
The problem regards when you move to the second event - the Swipes. You can see the impact that Parallels have upon Swipes when you alternate frequently. Therein lies the strategy of this amazing strength endurance sport.

Thanks coach, that explains it.
Doug- I'm only using the 15's for the swipe, i'll be ordering the 25's in the next couple of weeks.

Brandon, no problem. Thanks for pointing out the error! Saved a lot of problems now that it's clearer. I'm sure this won't be the last error either, so keep the questions coming.
Those numbers with 15s are beastly, amigo. But then again... you are an Alpha. 8)

Is the next CST, Delta? That would suck because I really wanted to be part of Delta force

The next group will become Gamma Cadre. Delta, I believe will be again in the Pacific Northwest.

Excellent. If I don't have to fly to the east, it makes it that much more likely that I will be able to make it.
I also recently found out that my team and I will be in Seattle in November for a regatta, I'm not sure of the exact dates/times yet.

Jesse, see you at Delta. November I'll be in TX and PA. Let the guys here know you're schedule. Maybe you can meet with the local clan. Good luck in your meet. Wish I could be there to cheer you on.

I indeed hope to see you at Delta Coach. I will post the dates and times for the Seattle Regatta as soon as I can. It would be cool to meet any locals in the area if it can be arranged.

Here's a few more questions...
-With all of the subtle changes in the OCS Mill, when would a rep not get counted?
- If all the CST's that attend compete...who's going to judge?
-During the swipes, can you arm park the Clubbells?
-I just noticed the dates are 6-8th of February 2004, is there something else planned besides the OCS?
Just curious,
-Brandon

With all of the subtle changes in the OCS Mill, when would a rep not get counted? A rep is counted when the Clubbell completes a pass in front of the head (Pendulum) and in back of the head (Shield Cast).
If all the CST's that attend compete...who's going to judge? Impartial, unaffiliated judges from the University.
During the swipes, can you arm park the Clubbells? No, only Shoulder or Chest Park. When Parking in order to keep that stalled rep counted (when resuming), one must end in Back Position and from there draw the Clubbells upward and over into Shoulder or Chest Park. To have the stalled rep counted, one must then return to Back Position to resume. A rep is counted when the Clubbells complete a pass behind the knees and into Back Position.
I just noticed the dates are 6-8th of February 2004, is there something else planned besides the OCS? No. However, we don't know yet how many participants to expect. We are reserving the weekend in the event that the OCS Championships is flooded with Clubbell competitors.
Good questions. Many of these are addressed in the OCS Handbook. It should be prepared soon.

...And yet another question. During the swipes today I came across either a really great nuance....or I was cheating. I noticed that if, as I was completing the forward swing, I could relax my grip almost completely and allow my grip to "slide" up the neck of the Clubbell so that I was in a "choked-up" position. This of course made the move to back position easier and allowed me to again relax my grip for a longer period of time as I brought the Clubbells back to order and then slid my grip back to normal position for the back swing. (I hope this is making sense). So my question is....
legal or illegal??? :?

I know I'd be impressed if you could do that for the entire 10 minutes.
But even if you could, in the end, none of the reps would count.
Your grip must remain at the Knob throughout the entire Swipe or Mill for the rep to count. That is one of the things that the Judges will be watching for.
Nice try though. A for effort. :)

"Taskmaster D" caught me on a few reps sliding as well when I was rep'ing out a test run on my OCS numbers. He's a slave driver, I tell you. :P
