I want to begin, slowly, on my nutrition aspect. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good books that can enlighten me on this subject. I have Potatoes not Prozac on the way to help with my addiction recovery to crystal meth, and it might possibly help me with my addiction recovery to cigarettes. Thank for all the helpful advice you might have.

Blink by Malcolm Gladwell has an illuminating section on smoking. But more books won't help you. Following the steps on PnP will.

Nutrition is such a huge area. Are you wanting to learn how to eat right, or the food- biochemistry of addiction, or ?.
Also - it's tempting for all of us addict types to want to read everything, and then be conflicted about what advice to follow, early in recovery. As if *more information* is the key.
But what really, really works is doing the food recovery step-by-step as outlined in PnP at least until you get past step 6. If you can treat all the extra reading you do during that time as "optional", and not let it get in the way of "doing" the food (as opposed to reading), that's what works best.
There will be all the time in the world for adding to your knowledge and refining your food program - after you get the basics down.

I have been a nutrition and diet nut for a long time and few have impressed me with their research more than Loren Cordain and his "Paleo-Diet".

SenorBlanco,
May I suggest Total Nutrition by Victor Herbert, M.D., et. al. it is a rather large book, but is quite scientifically researched. You can pick up a copy at Amazon, or at a Barnes and Noble at the local mall.
It is 780 pages, divided into sections such as supplementation, "dieting", etc. Chapters 21-22 deal specifically with the issues that you wrote about, "The Nutritional Effects of Alcohol" and " Nutrition and the use of Tobacco, Caffeine and Other Mood Altering Substances. Chapter 24 deals specifically with the nutritional needs of athletes...
It's compilation was over seen by the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. And for all of it's girth, it was under $20.
Enjoy.

Patrick Holford did a recent UK tv prog where he reviewed and revised the diet of a group of troubled teenage boys. They'd been expelled from mainstream school. diagnosed ADHD etc

So many books so little time. Two good ones to me are Healing With Whole Foods by Paul Prtitchford and Nutitional Influences On Illness by Melvin Werbach.

Best book I found to help me recognize what cigarettes were doing to me and allow me, once and for all, to say goodbye is The Easy Way To Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. If you have quit, want to quit, or are trying to prevent yourself from going back to quitting, this book can help.
Check out Amazon.com marketplace and get a reduced price copy and then pass it on to someone you care about after you're finished with it.
