Anybody have ready access to something like this:

plus easy access to an airport that has the cheap flights in from all over Oz / Australasia / New Zealand and the Pacific.

Sowing seeds here, any thoughts ??????

I would love to attend an event like this Randall and I'm pretty sure my namesake would be right there with me.

As I've said before, if we hold an event in Sydney I will likely be able to rustle up about 8 people. Anywhere else I might get three.

In either case, count me in.

I like this idea.

I have two schools of thought regarding location...

1. On one hand I'm thinking that perhaps the best location for something like this would be Sydney or Melbourne. My reasoning being that Brisbane and Adelaide already have access to CST coaches (Randell and myself) so it would seem logical to offer the carnival/seminar in the eastern states that have a number of enthusiasts but no coach.

2. On the other hand I am thinking Adelaide could be good as it would mean that people will have access to a range of Clubbells (my studio is equipped with a pair of each size and I also have some extra 15's). I also know of a great indoor venue in Adelaide which will be fine for if we dropped a Clubbell (important if we have beginners). There is only a couple of people in Adelaide who own Clubbells but I imgaine we'll get others from other areas who will want to see what Clubbells are about.

If I can get my Clubbells to Melbourne or Sydney then I'd rather have it there, I just have to consider work commitments which at the moment are pretty huge (the downside of being self employed is that you don't really get paid holidays  ).

I'll keep my thinking cap on,
Matt :D

I don't really mind where.

Transporting a range of clubbells may be problem.

Who has clubbells so far in Sydney ( or Melbourne) ?????

R. :D

PS I have:

8 x 5lbers
4 x 10 lbers +2 from school
2 x 15lbers
1 x 25lber
1 x 35lber
1 x 45lber ( just arrived this arvo - thanks Matt - "you da' Man "!!!!!)
plus an wide assortment of high pressure PVC clubs I made prior to getting my hands on the real things. We may have to factor transport costs into the mix to get these little babies to where ever we go.

Great idea, guys! :)

Does this mean that an ICS event is also in the cards at some point?

Or at least I'll do my very best to be there...

Willing to travel...

Nice idea re the ICS Jason,

I'm just a little relcutant given the technical skill involved with the current ICS moves of the Swipe and Mill. Obviously I know they can be performed safely but there is also a lot elbow, shoulder and back stress that can result from those moves. I certainly don't mean to imply that there aren't Aussies capable of performing them well, I just think it would be great to have an alternate format available with the likes of perhaps...

Option 1: Single Inward Pendulum (swap arms whenever you want but only the reps of the lowest arm are counted) to sub for the Mill.

Option 2: Single or Double CTO or Fwd Pend to sub for the Swipe.

I know we have discussed this once before (a long time ago) but I still think the idea is worth considering.

The other reason I propose the alternate format in Australia is because there are a great more people with 1x15lbs Clubbell than with a pair (therfore they can practice more if they decide to try it). I must though that I am certainly not "righting off" the idea of an Aussie ICS.

If the idea of the alternate exercises (as I mentioned above) are well received I don't see why I (and or Randell if he's keen) can't run the alternate format and just avoid using the title of ICS. It can just be the Aussie Clubbell Challenge or something like that. I may even be able to line up some prizes etc.

The possibilities are endless. I also have another idea in the works but I have to keep it on the hush-hush for now.

Stay Well,
Matt :D

If it's in Sydney, I could probably get 4+ people to go.

But personally, I'll travel to any Aust. city.

Yeah, providing we don't have to go to another country like say WA or Tasmania, I'm all good.

This sounds like a fun multi-car road trip to me. :) Having travelled to Annual Historical Fencing events for the last few years or so, the road trip can sometimes be almost as much fun as the event.

Road trip, cool!

Drive for 10 hours, then throw each other round Softwork style to avoid Deep Vein Thrombosis. Yeah!

See you soon,
Garth

Hi Guys,

Randell and I are definately keen to make this happen (we'll even try to bring some Clubbells with us) so let's all keep in touch and see how we go. I'll be sure to start making some announcements and sending out some queries. A venue is probably something we really have to consider carefully. If you guys have any suggestions then we'd love to hear them.

Stay well and have a great weekend,
Matt :D

Matt and I recognize that we are not close to most of you in the mid Eastern states - sorting a venue is probably the most important consideration if this proposal is to evolve naturally.

Cheers

Would we consider training in a park? I love training in Centenial Pk, but I still haven't found a good wet weather alternative.

Or are you thinking something more like a grappling gym or gymnastics group?

Let's set the city ASAP, as this is more important than venue.

Myself and Randell have discussed this a little already and our current thinking is that Sydney would be the place to have it. I can't speak on Randell's behalf but that was our thinking the last time we spoke.

Cheers guys,
Matt :D

I spoke to Randall on the phone a few days ago and I'm pretty sure he thinks Sydney is the go simply due to numbers.

Venue is going to be a massive problem unless someone is in an organisation with liability insurance. Most places won't let you hire their hall without this in my experience.

Also, I have decided that I am out of training for a few weeks. My back injury has changed a little to be more debilitating than it was and I can't really do anything right now.
Cheers,
Stu.

Th insurance shouldn't be too big a problem, I have a policy which travels with me irrespective of venue (yes, it costs me a lot in premiums each year  ). The only hiccup is that I'm not sure about how the policy will work if I am delivering a workshop with another instructor, from what I know of with the policies each instructor would require their own insurance but that would be still be very messy. We'll look into this a little further. As I say, I know I'm covered when I deliver workshops by myself but I don't know how it will work when delivering with another intructor (Randell and I are very keen to work together on this so I imagine we'll figure something out).

Cheers Stu,
Matt :D
