Hello to All Tribe!

Yesterday was my debut in Be Breathed and Slavyanskiy Byeg. After just the premilinary exercises, two things I noticed: how my breathing is really affected by Fear-Reactivity (I hold my breath when I need to breath out, like doing some strength exercise or just getting up the chair when I shoud breath in) and how Slavyanskiy Byeg reminds me of race walking.

So, now I have incorporated being breathed in my life. To tell the truth, a few years ago I developed a protocol for doing ukemi in Aikido that was just like that: in the way down, exhale, in the way up, let the air in naturally. I got some ugly faces from my peers, quite often. Well, that is life.

To test me with Be Breathed, I tried to do the one-arm-pushup and one-leg-squat with it (I have The Naked Warrior book and DVD from Pavel). The OAP was really awesome. No red faces, no headaches afterwards, not even pain. In the OLS (aka the Pistol), I noticed that in the way down, exhale, in the way up inhale, or better, let the air suck in. Another new-ances from be breathed. During the up phase, where I should be exerting maximum strength, I just let the air in and I got up nice and easy. I came to the conclusion that, if you breathe correctly, you are strong correctly.

I am a former amature race walker. I tried that for a couple of years and found really interesting in terms to know my body and having a workout better then running (former High School/College long distance runner, too), despite all the jokes I heard. Well, I hear that now, too, but who cares ;-) . When I watched the tape, I saw that the gait was very like the race walk gait. I gave a try right there, in the corridor. It was amazing how it felt like floating. It was like race walking without the strain and pain. At night I tried it through a few yards and now I have incorporated it to my daily training, with the all-the-time-training philosophy in mind, when I go to the subway or to the supermarket.

Be breathed while running!

Thank you all for your comments. I feel like that character played by Keanu Reaves in that movie "Johnny Mnemonic", with all the information I am assimilating now: "Just hit it".

And now I proudly announce that I am the owner of a 10lbs Clubbell set, just as of today. You all are completely right: if you have never touched a Clubbell, get the 10-pounder. It IS heavier then it sounds. Since I am now devoted to RMAX, I will get some footage when I stop embarassing myself with my own stiffness :D, very much inspired by MaxMoon.

By the way, yesterday a did my first kinetic chain, although a simple one: creep-walk to flat-foot-squat to cossack-squat to shin-squat then change to the other leg, up to shin-squat then to (do not remember the name, shin-squat with foot in front of the knee)-squat to flat-foot-squat then get up. When I finished it for the first time, a smile came naturally on my face. I have been struggling through the basics for almost two weeks and it was a personal victory, mostly because it was almost effortlessly.

Very interesting to note that my knees are coming back to be healthier and stronger. I had some knee injuries through my life (ligaments and meniscus), but never underwent surgery, and they usually hurt and were unstable a lot. It seems that they are coming back to the old shape, against all my first impressions when I watched Body-Flow for the first time. Always getting surprised by RMAX.

Gustavo my man, don't underestimate how great an achievement you put in by managing to do that kinetic chain. On average I'd say that only 1 in 10 people can even do a flat foot squat, let alone put together the movements and chain that you did. Smell the roses my friend, you did very well!

Have a great day mate,
Matt :D
