hi ....
I was wondering what the benifits of shadow boxing with small weights are?
I have read in a couple of books that it's of now benifit and it will damage your joints, but lately i have been watching some clips of fedor emilanko and the red devil team doing lots of this type of training and the guy seem pretty healthy to me.
does eny one have eny info on this type of training?

Boxing coaches who understand what they are doing advise using handweights that are approximately the same weight as the glove weight of the intended event.
Using heavier weight catalogs movements as new skills neuromuscularly (just like back hand returns with a racquetball racquet and with a tennis racquet are two entirely different skills), and as a result, adversely impacts performance.
Be careful of following the routines of star athletes. Most perform well in spite of their supplemental strength and conditioning, not because of it. When I was highly competitive in Sambo internationally, I drank a liter of cola a day on average, did the drive through chalupa thing, ran marathon distances and used body-building to prepare for tournaments.

Having a kidney stone passing in the middle of a 20 mile run was the first sign to tell me to try training differently. That was over 10 years ago, and I still shiver at the thought.

And the first time I did it even that was too much. Heh. Holding that position for that period of time just burned. I've been doing a lot of mobilized strength during this training cycle (1-2 times per week). Its seriously good stuff. Follow the guildelines with regards to reps and speed. Too easy to go to fast or do too much and that'll actually reduce your training :( I have found that a 2nd round of warrior wellness (neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists and upper back) is sometimes necessary in the evening after a particularly brutal Mobilized Strength session... gosta keep it loose.
