Finally had a session with my boxing coach yesterday (we trade in kind, no fees for me!) and we worked with the clubs for 1.5-2 hours.

He also teaches fencing, which is his primary love, and has a fencing team.

Lemme tell you, he absolutely loves the clubs. His eyes lit up several times during the session as he saw how certain movements would give his team a big advantage over their competition.

As usual, it was a great time for me, because I love sharing with interested people. Even more interesting, however, were the explanations and demonstrations of how many of the club movements mirror movements and tactics from western fencing and sword work.

Wes, the coach, really knows his stuff. He thinks that indian clubs may have been used first as a training device for the Royal Guards, who used swords, even before they were used by wrestlers. Not sure as to whether this is true, but interesting nonetheless.

Happy Holiday,

Rufus

Interesting to hear you mention fencing Rufus,

At the CST Gamma Cadre Seminar I talked with a fencer in attendance who was having a bit of trouble with the stabilization of the Clubbells. We came to the conclusion that fencing alone lead him to overdeveloped concentric strength of his wrists and since the Clubbells focus so much on isometric and eccentric strength of the wrists that they would be a perfect compliment to his fencing.

In any case it made for some fun discovery to come to this conclusion.

Interesting point, Doug.

Another facet that excited Wes was that it will be a fun way to get his younger athletes to train in a more balanced fashion, while maintaining some of the fencing fun. You usually fence from only one side, which can lead to imbalances.

Cool stuff.
