Hello Mr. Black:

Welcome to the CST Forum.

Have you had a chance to read Coach Sonnons book and see his video on Clubbell trainng?

Did you take up Indian Clubs independant of the CB concept, it would interesting and informative to see what kind of training you have devised with these.

Again, welcome and I look forward to your input.

Jack.

Yes, actually I'm on page 53 of the book and the picture I took of Slim Farman is on page 52. I also have the video. I took up Indian c lubs before the existence of clubbells. For me, it all started with sledgehammer leverage lifting about 8 years ago. My training with those is very slow, almost static, and obviously different than with clubbells, but related in that they are both leverage lifting. I first was interested in c lubs when I purchased " Indian C lubs and Dumb Bells" Spalding Athletic Library (1914) at an antique store around 1995. I was doing some of the exercises from the book with a loading pin and plates, but tended to heavier slower movements than most of those in the book. On the other end of the spectrum, I friend showed me the baseball bat filled with sand concept (10-pounds, but longer than a clubbell and about the same torque) and his swinging was actually faster than that of Coach Sonnons, my friends concept was to duplicate the fast movements of a sword. It's very hard to describe this type of swinging, imagine flicking the bat all with the wrist, basically keeping the hand in one spot as the bat goes in a complete circle. Very difficult with a 10-pound bat. (sorry to defeat the trademark feature, I respect it, but I am talking about pre-clubbells here).

Mr. Black,
Coach Sonnon has stated on several occassions how much he appreciates your work as well as how much you do to promote Clubbells. Welcome to CST Forum.
Thank you,

Welcome, Tom.

You inspired me to try some nail bending back on the old grip page (Although I haven't been able to get back on in a while). Still have a lot of work to do on that front. :?

Look forward to seeing your thoughts,
Jim

I think that clubbells are as fundamental to building strength as dumbbells and barbells. They can be used for serious "strongman" training to people trying to improve their golf grip.

Jim,
Keep up the work with the clubbells and it will improve your nail bending
