View Full Version : Joint Salts

I have been practicing the new intu-flow for a week now. I had a performance impediment in my right elbow, loss of rotation and full extension to arm lock. yesterday I did a 30min clubbell endurance sesion and the day before I did some very streneus rock climbing. This morning during my mobility session my elbow made a very audible pop. As I continued to explore the range of motion I felt an increase in discomfort and an increase in range of motion,RPD4. When extending the elbow there in more of a pop than there has been yet the range is increased. This is good, yes. I feel that I'm breaking up joint salts.

My inuition says to decrease my clubbell load and increase my mobility work. The most challenging aspect of my training is not to go into overtrain as this has been my predominate pattern. Here is my question: Whats the protocal for training during an increased ROM due to joint salts disolving?

Thanks

Joseph,

Follow your intuition.

Drop off any external load.

Increase load-less slow, smooth effort DROM (dynamic in particular).

Don't go for the pop (noise); go for the low discomfort (RPD<4)smoothness.

Thanks Coach,

As I explore my ROM I find that I can shave off discomfort by slow and smooth. only when I increase speed does the joint pop. I'll go with the slow protocal for a while and report.

Wow, Joseph! Great example of someone who is actually listening when their body is trying to tell them something.

Remember the difficulty you had at Theta with lying face down on the floor, arms underneath you, elbow pits down, pinkies together?

My guess is the result of all this intuitive work on your part will eventually be that you're more comfortable with that position.

Jeanne,

When i get into the locust position i can get the elbowlock but my shoulders are still in the way. I have a fairbit more work before the I can really recover that posture. With this release in my elbow i'm on my way to getting it.

That's great Joseph! Seeing how well you did at Theta, I can only imagine what is ahead of you after this elbow issue resolves. :D

I've been dooing lots of dynamic mobility for the elbow and shoulder. Closed chain elbow circles have been the most successful at recovering the ROM. I have perhaps a bad habit, yet very effective. While driving I do closed chain circles. The steering wheel act as a very good medium to close the chain. For my shoulders, I have been closing the chain by getting on the floor, turning this side or that depending on the plane. The only circle I haven't been able to implement well this way is top. The RPD of the elbow is 0-1 :D

So it seems in my case, after the joint salt broke loose, it took a bout four or five days for the capsule to flush out the byproduct. Does anyone have information on this process?

It may be tied to the biochemical cycle of nutrition.

I did up my intake of healthy fats. I ate one avocado a day plus made a spirlina udo's oil blend for salad dressing. Am I correct that the combination of strengthening of the phosolipid bilayer of the cell wall, and scavenging effect, free radical cancelation, of the essential fatty acids is key to the biochemical aspect of joint nutrition?

Although that's superb, that's not what I meant. I was referring to your question. Perhaps it relates to the 4 day biochemical cycle of nutrition.

Oh, I need to learn about that cycle. I'll web search that topic.
Thanks Coach
