Hi!

My name is Jim Schubert.

I trained for 19 years in Kali, explored JKD concepts, Ninjutsu and a street-oriented form of Aikido taught by a Police College instructor and former hostage rescue team leader. I worked as a professional bouncer for 10 years in various types environments. Then I decided I wanted an income. First I went into Canada's infantry as an officer, but I crushed 2 vertebrae between the shoulder blades. The orthopedic specialist said it was a "lower thoracic facet strain healed with residual scar" and said I could do whatever I wanted within my pain tolerance.

The next day I went for a run intent on stopping as soon as I felt any pain. I ran 9K. As a result I gave myself an overuse injury to my knee. So I resigned from the military and decided to pursue less active pursuits while trying to heal the pain in my back.

So I became an expert in accelerated learning, NLP and hypnosis and worked as a hypnotist and trainer for 5 years. I slowly drifted out of shape. I did heal the pain in my back thanks to an Alexander Technique teacher and a Feldenkrais expert. Then I went into banking for a year (hated it) and then became a computer geek for 3 years.

Also, 2 and a half years ago, while exploring breathing for trumpet playing (I've played trumpet for 26 years (minus a 4-year break)), I followed a link that led me to the ameross site. I used my computer geek income to buy the full Zdorovye set including the running. 6 Months later I went back ito a Judo class and was so winded I had to leave after 45 minutes. (I had done Judo for 18 months 5 years ago and for 2 years when I was 11-13)

So I bought the Grapplers Toolbox and started working through that. Then I bought Be Breathed, IOUF and Warrior Wellness. I've spent the summer working on GPP with Deadlifts, Bench Presses, Chin-ups, Body Flow (bought the book as soon as it came out), Squats, Handstand push-ups, etc.

Now I've decided on a new career. I am eager to become a carpenter's apprentice. My primary goal is to use CB and CST to get fit enough to do the work without getting tired or sore. My secondary goal is to get back into good enough shape to go back into the military. To do that one I need to be able to do 50+ (SISSy) push-ups, 50+ sit-ups (feet not anchored) and 6+ chin-ups. I als o need to run 1.5 miles in under 12 minutes.

I currently can do 21 sit-ups, 23 push-ups, 8 chin-ups and 1.5 miles in 14 minutes 52 seconds. I have 5 and 15 pound clubbells(R) and 1 35-lb. and 1 53-lb. kettlebell. I have a planned workout based on Coach Sonnon's DD Death March. I'll post it in the training logs as soon as I'm allowed.

After mostly lurking for the last year, I say, "Hello to all!"

Welcome to the Tribe, 'dragger Jim.
As much adversity as you've overcome, you'll be swinging your Clubbells regardless of the pain they shall bring.
I look forward to reading your lean and mean fighting machine progress report in the training logs.
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
