View Full Version : Strange situation while rolling

While training BJJ for many years I had a few times where I really had peak performances.

Sometimes I was able to tap people at will doing it easy and without much effort (IŽam a purple belt) and creating spontanious movements to submit people.

I have usually a good performance but sometimes it si really peaking out while other times it is going down.

For a few years I try to understand what the reasons for my good performance are.

I feel it has a lot to do with breathing, relaxiation physically and mentally but I am not able to reproduce this state at will.

I mean IŽam not talking about a better feeling but a dramatically changed performance. I sparred with more than one person to see if I was better or the others just had a bad day but I was able to do that with all people.

I even experienced that I had a peak while training and loosing it while rolling after a few minutes.

What do you think? How can I achieve these peak state at will and keep it for the training.

I belive it is a little bit similar to what you call Flow on the forum isnŽt it?

I've been training BJJ for almost 9 yrs. and Coach Sonnon's work has probably helped my BJJ more than anybody's during that time. What you described sounds very much like flow. Check out the Flow-fighting video and the Body Flow book to learn more.

I'm sure some of his more recent work, such as Softwork, addresses this even further, but I haven't seen those yet.

Good luck,
Stefan
