Hi,

A very common situation that occurs in wrestling is the front head lock posistion. Either you have some one in a front headlock or you have taken a sloppy shot or they've just completely muscled you and they have you.
What I'm looking for is ways to use the trianglepoint and JMC while having a front headlock to score quickly even get the opponent to his back. I teach one way of doing this by holding the front headlock and screwing your body through to you opponents opposite knee trying to catch it on your way. I've had lots of success with the with my wrestlers. I would like to have more insights.
Also using these priciple from a defensive standpoint where you are stuck in a front headlock. Basically how to counter or even score from that posistion.
Also are there any exercises I should review in Grapplers Toolbox or Body flow that would help when prefroming the front headlock.

I know that's a lot of information to go over but if anyone has any insights or ideas just give me a reply. Thanks a lot.

Max,

One of the most successful maneuvers is a Sit-Through Arm-Screw. With the arm around the opponent's head begin to screw down around and upward, as you allow your body to move tightly over his. With the same side leg, Leg Thread underneath. This exposes the JMC to the vulnerable Triangle Point between his far Supporting Leg and your Supporting Leg. Follow this by a Rear Arm Roll while he is falling and you'll land in Mount.

There is also the Arm Drag where you reach under his torso with the arm not around his head to his far armpit. Hook the armpit and pull as you simultaneously High Step with the same side leg hooking the armpit, over your Supporting Leg. It looks like the opposite of a Leg Thread. This should bring you to Top Side Control, and if you maintain your armpit hook, you should easily collapse him in a tight screw to his back.

When caught in a Front Head Lock, remember that you have the advantage of penetrating lower and under his mass center - to steal the JMC. This enables pick-ups, duck-unders and even double legs. As well, you can withdrawal your hips, Leg Thread under exposing him to his frontal Triangle Point, and launch any number of Whizzers (especially the Japanese Whizzer.)

Work on the Leg Thread, Lateral Shoulder Roll and Rear Shoulder Roll.

These are "high percentage technique" descriptions. As you become more proficient, you won't need such gross movements and will become aware of subtleties that make for efficient grappling and fighting refinement.

Enjoy.

...if I have an opponent in a front headlock any type of go-behind is a loss of advantage--I would much rather submit my opponent from this position. A front headlock can transition into a triangular neck crank, or you can release the chinhook and cinch up the hold by reaching through and gripping the opposite-side triceps, creating a strangulation where the deltoid compresses the blood supply to the brain. This hold is very effective. Perhaps this is not positional grappling, but never hesitate to hurt your opponent (in contests).
