Does anyone here use coconut oil on a regular basis? If so, what brand?

Hi Charles,
I get cononut oil from Tropical Traditions. The cheapest source i've found is mercola.com

I use it all the time. I buy Nutvita from the local health/grocery here in SF because it costs the same as ordering Tropical Traditions. I've heard that most of the coconut oil on the market is made by Tropical Traditions and sourced out in bulk to other distributors like Nutvita.

I've become a fan of coconut oil as well. I've ordered from http://www.WildernessFamilyNaturals.com and been pleased with the product. As I've travelled, I've also used the Spectrum brand from the grocery stores. I'm less satisfied with it mostly I like the smell of coconut in oil and they seem to filter that out in that product. However, it doesn't seem to have a difference that I've noticed in terms of cooking or use on the skin.

Thanks for the info. I got some from Omega Nutritionals and didn't like it at all. It doesn't have a coconut smell. I fried some eggs with it. It smells horrible cooking but didn't impart any flavor to the food. I just wanted some ideas on a better quality product. Thanks.

coconut oil is so good.
i use it mainly on the skin.
here is an ultimate shower idea i use:
start with a wet cloth, rub some NATURAL (none of that supermarket junk) soap on the cloth, then add some bicarbonate of soda, then some salt (sea salt, himalayan crystal salt, epsom salt) and rub the cloth together to form a lather.
rub down your dry body with the cloth.
rinse off with warm water.
switch to cold water (important!) to close the pores of the skin, and run some down the spine to tone the nervous system.
when out of the shower and still wet, get some coconut oil (or olive or sesame oil) and rub down your body with the oil to remove a layer of dirt that all the other stuff can't get to.
finished and rub down with a towel to dry.
enjoy!

I too get my coconut oil from tropicaltraditions.com! I purchase the organic, centrifuged, as it receives the least amount of processing and is still raw and pure.
Peace,

Coconut oil is high in Omega 6 but low in Omega 3. Please make sure to balance this ratio. I personally like cooking in olive oil or flaxseed oil which the Omega 6 and 3 ratio seems about right.

The problem with those 2 is that neither will take the high heat without breaking down like coconut oil will. Flax oil is very unstable and goes rancid rather quickly. I use it in salads. Olive oil can be used in low temp cooking but not in higher temperatures like stir frying. I do use both frequently but not much for cooking.

I'm a big user of Grapeseed Oil, it's great for cooking since it has a high smoking temperature!!!

Where does one find grapeseed oil? I've never heard of it.

Charles,
If you do a web search for Grapeseed oil you'll find a couple of sites for it. It's a little more expensive than some other oils, but I love it. I use it for all my cooking, sauces and dressings!!!
Here's the place I order it from, I normally buy it by the gallon which usually lasts me a month.
Napa Valley Natural's Grapeseed Oil (http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=121121&prrfnbr=132799)
Take care,
Chris
