I sit in shin box and I cant figure out how to move or shift my weight to even approximate an ascending shinbox switch.
Descending shinboxes arent much better. I think mine are better called flopping shinboxes.
I work knee switches and they are getting easier. I still feel too much weight on the side of the ball of my foot though.

Are there any other ways to improve the movement other than using a chair as a prop?

Matt,

Here are two drill for you to try then see how that integrates with your shinbox switch.
First: lie on your back feet on floor hip width apart, maybe wider deepening on your structure. yeilding the knees to one side or the other. The direction that your knees point, lengthen out the hip and thigh. Switch and repeat for 3- 5 reps
Second: Sit with feet on floor hold your legs just below the knee cap. Do thoracic mobilty drills from this position. As you progress see if you can make a smooth arch with the whole spine. let your movemnt squeeze out the breathe and be breathed.

See what it feels like to put it together in the Bio-mechanical exercise. :)
