View Full Version : Methods of restoration

Just curious what types of things work to restore work capacity after an all out event. In the past I have taken two weeks off of training after a competition to rest and reset. However this is no longer and option.
After my last all out effort, I rested three days, did some DROM exercises, and rested even the fourth day although unplanned. 5th, 6th day I trained lightly and 7th day I rested - with WW .
I go to train today with hopes of picking up where I left off. Not only did I fail to acheive the numbers I wanted, my inner pansy completely kicked my ass.
I did feel slightly better afterwards, and I think a return to full intensity and numbers is in the works, just taking longer than I expected.
In the spring of next year I plan another all out event 4 weeks before the National Championships in KB sport. After the event I will have 5 days of active recovery followed by two weeks of pre-contest training plus one week taper followed by the contest. So I would like some information to recover from the effort.
I imagine one of the things which did not help was my failure to do comprehensive WW the day after the event.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I imagine one of the things which did not help was my failure to do comprehensive Warrior Wellness™ the day after the event. That's a pretty hefty satellite you just launched, amigo. Just wanted to reflect your intuition. If your intuition blips something that major on the radar, then I suspect you already have a major solution at hand.
Add in Vibration Drills and Whirlpool/Jacuzzi jets with sleeping and eating like a champion, and I suspect you'll be golden.
One possible method regards playing an unrelated activity to give yourself dynamic relaxation and unload your CNS.

Yeah, I realized it after I posted it, funny how that works someimtes. You're dead on about the sleeping and eating right too. Sometimes the travel affects your sleep patterns and your recovery too.
I did some vibration drills from prime-your-bio-energy and I got immediate results. I can only look back and say I should have done that immediately.
Amazing how the vibration drill worked its magic. I could feel the tension, especially in the traps being released.
So at least now I have something to plan with for after my next maximum effort.
WW
Vibration Drills
Sleep & Eat like a champion
Whirlpool if I can get to it.

The major benefit, which goes unnoticed to many, of CST Forum is the ability to reflect your own intuitive assement upon the resounding 'board' of fellow knuckledraggers. It's why I post here as well... not just to answer questions.
If you notice, my daily routine always includes at least two of the three following courses: Warrior Wellness
Prime Your Bioenergy
Be Breathed I wouldn't leave home without them.

Chris:
Given all the heavy work you do w/ your shoulders, do you do shoulder and neck rolls?
It took me a while to get to the point where I could, but once I started doing them, I was astounded how relaxed and refreshed I was after a GStraining session. I also do them on the day after -- as well as WW. On days when I'm simulating a 2 GS event day (i.e., snatches & CJs), I do them in between lifts. A great release of everything from head to core.
The other thing that struck me in reading your post that it's taking you longer to hit high numbers after your all-out assault on the LC -- are you doing the same lifts, movements as you were before? If so, I'd suggest slightly different ones for at least a week to give your body-mind a chance to reset. Otherwise, you may be in plateau mode w/o the variation.
My 2 cents, champ.

Ken,
Great suggestions. I will try them out tommorrow or Wednesday. As for hittin glowe numbers, yes I am, but I;ve been easing back in. Your suggestion to change the exercises for the first week going back in is a great one. Now that I think of it, I did do one session of just Jerks but I ended up aggravating my back. Maybe next time, after an all out I'll go back in for a week with different exercises like you said.
One variable I did decide to change was to go back to the 24kgs, my last 3 week cycle leading up to NC, I did condensed DT with the 28kgs. So that should prevent a plateau.
