I haven't used this particular product, so it could do what it claims. Hopefully someone will be able to give you the answer you're looking for.

That being said, the rest of my contribution is unasked for rant based on experience with other older, orthotic products, and is in no way directed at you Steve, or your question.

The idea of these kind of products is starting to chafe a little. I don't see how they can be successful even simulating how a bare foot acts on the ground, when the foot now has to 'feel' through a sock, an engineered orthotic and an engineered shoe sole before it can sense and respond to what it senses about the ground.

Even if the orthotic device is custom designed for your feet, your feet aren't statically shaped, and even if they were, both the orthotic and shoe sole are gonna start breaking down as you use them, quite possibly creating a different problem with overcompensation.

If they're admitting its important to move like bare feet would, why not stimulate our feet the old fashioned way, save our money, and just... take... our...shoes... off once in a while? It doesn't take that long to recover full ROM in the feet if we do that, and once you have, you can then wear shoes when you need to, and do your compensatory work afterwards.

I'm open to the possibility that they could be helpful for someone completely unwilling to take their shoes off to begin to transition to something a little different. But in my opinion, you're not going to recover the same kind of proprioceptive awareness in your feet until you take shoes off for a while.

I think you make some good points but I have flat feet and custom orthotics have helped eliminate my foot pain and knee pain. I have noticed that my feet don't seem to get sore when I'm barefoot but I haven't been able to go barefoot long enough to really test that observation.

Some of my friends also have difficulties with flat feet. One has had tremendous success from practicing the 4CBD in bare/sock feet (lately upgraded to UGS). Another is wearing orthotics and doing physical therapy to build up his feet to where the 4CBD becomes a possibility.

Though I educate my clients on why I wear UGS instead of other footwear for training and let them know they can choose to slip their sneakers off at any time, it is outside my scope of practice to advocate against orthotics or other foot therapies. As a trainer, I leave such matters to licensed medical professionals.
