A review of Coach Wilson's Qigong DVD

For an introduction to qigong, I have never seen a better job done anywhere! I have been training in qigong for a long time, and have been teaching it for quite a while. My qigong teachers are some of the most respected in the world.I have seen a ton of qigong vids. and have studied with a lot of other teachers throughout the years, so I know a little bit about it. What Coach Wilson has managed to do is create a very lucid and intelligible intro. to qigong that removes the mystery, but at the same time, doesn't rob it of it's "magic".Coach Wilson not only presents an extremely clear program for beginners of qigong, but also explains the way these principles can be applied to any area of physical culture.
My qigong background is in taoist alchemical qigong, and bagua qigong. both of these are very esoteric, and I had to develop my own intro programs to teach my own students. I was amazed at how Coach Wilson presented a bare bones qigong format that can easily be built upon, and at the same time, tied it into the principles of RMAX, thereby making every aspect of RMAX into a possible qigong exercise. I highly recommend this dvd to both qigong beginners and advanced students!!

Geoff, superb review!!! It was an honor for me to learn from Coach Wilson for the filming of this course and a great privilege for RMAX to have him bring his understanding to us!

    Great review Geoff

I also enjoyed receiving instruction from Coach Wilson for the filming. The ripples of what he taught me continue to spread to the farthest reaches of my practice...

Would you be interested in expanding your review for inclusion in the magazine? If so, send to me at editor@rmaxinternational.com, my new address. Tried to PM you but your box was full.

I recently received Coach Wilson's Qigong DVD and was very impressed. What I thought made the DVD valuable was how well he broke down the practice.

The most prominent thing I got out of it (after the first viewing, of course) was that the movements chosen are not as important as how one performs them while perfectly coordinating breathing, movement, and structure. Seeing how there are tons on Qigong styles, it only makes sense that there are a small handfull of fundamental truths about the practice and I think he nailed it.

I will be incorporating some of the practices into my new routines. It is a great mind clearer and stress reliever among other things.

    extending qi gong

About the tons of styles of quigong and Coach Wilson's insights:

So i haven't seen the DVD. But Goeffd, i did notice that you said you practiced a couple kinds of qi gong. Right now i have a copy of mantak chia's Inner Smile book and was thinking of reintegrating that practice into my life along with other microcosmic orbit meditations that i learned from his books. Do you have any commentary on 1)his work and 2) the overlap, if any, between chia's work and Wilson's DVD?

Query on "hurting yourself" by doing it wrong

    Howdy.

I've been wanting to check out the qigong as well as the internal martial art RMAX dvd's for some time - but am curious firstly about investigating "wrongly," and doing more harm than good.

While this is true of any bodywork endeavor, I've read the warning more than once when approaching Tai Chi qigong, that if you're not careful with how you manipulate or lead the chi, especially when working on storing it or moving it over the head or working the perineum or comressing the marrow, etc. that unpleasant things can occur. Two of the prominent folks doing chi work that I know of have suffered strokes, not a great statistical argument, but it did make me pause a bit.

Any thoughs on harmful chi moving practice, and is this addressed at all in either dvd?

Peter great to see you, my friend.

Any TCMA coach worth their salt will advise to work on Yi (awareness) since Qi (life force) cannot be directly manipulated. The direct analogue is our autonomic system: we cannot consciously control our heart rate, but we can control our breath to slow or hasten our heart rate.

Coaches Jones and Wilson are masters of attention and help cultivate the skills to deepen the discipline that has transformed them into world class athletes.
