Coach Sonnon appointed Martial Art / Combat Advisor to US Kettlebell Federation

Martial Arts / Combat Advisor Position
    December 18, 2006

    Kettlebell Lifter,

Head Coach Valery Fedorenko is excited to announce Scott Sonnon as the American Kettlebell Club's Martial Arts and Combat Advisor. With this position comes great responsibility, so it's a decision Valery did not take lightly. As many of you know, Kettlebell Lifting is similar to Martial Arts and Combat, in that you must use all of your faculties to improve and excel. Kettlebell Lifting develops many of the same skills that a fighter needs in a Martial situation, but how do you know you've got the right advice? With Coach Sonnon and Valery joining forces, you can't find a better mix of experience anywhere.

Scott Sonnon has a multitude of credentials! He's a multiple-time USA National Team Coach, International Martial Arts Champion, Hall of Fame Inductee and Distinguished Master of Sport. His professional memberships include the International Society of Biomechanics in Sport; United States Sambo Association; American Amateur Sambo Federation; Federation Internationale de Sambo; and Amateur Athletic Union. One of the most important things to consider about Scott is his focus on strengthening the mind, spirit and body to achieve maximum health. It's also our focus at the American Kettlebell Club, and one of the main reasons for his appointment.

Coach Sonnon also holds a Doctorate in Health and Physical Education from Columbus University. He has used his unique blend of Education and Experience to write several breakthrough books, create over 50 Educational Video Programs, and hold numerous Seminars and Workshops over the last decade. Recently, Scott's Training System "CST", which focuses on Heath First and Forever, was approved to be used in the U.S. Army Combatives School, the 50th Brigade Special Troops Battalion and the 99th RRC Gun Truck Alley. Any questions about his level of expertise?

Truly, it's too much to list it all here, but you can find out all about Scott and his Company by visiting RMAX International

We are very proud to have Coach Sonnon as our Martial Arts/Combat Advisor and look forward to his advice in 2007.

    Regards,

    Eric Liford, Editor

    Congrats!
Be interested to hear Coach Sonnon's thoughts on this.

I'm intrigued that a kettlebell association would appoint him since he obviously holds the position that the Clubbell® is a far more useful tool...

Um... is this as huge as I think it is? I mean, for a "variety" of reasons?

However big you think this is, it's bigger.

As far as what makes the best fighter, please read my recent article for my take on this issue.

And to make this clear, what is fantastic about Valery and has lifted him to world domination as the leader in the kettlebell world is his non-powerlifting (power breathing and hi tension) approach to kettlebell training. Although kettlebells have been inappropriately associated with power breathing and hi tension, the truth from a world champion and Distinguished Master of Sport will rapidly spread (and with as much support as I can muster.) This is how I was trained in kettlebells in Russia, as well, but not nearly to the level Valery has taken it as an athlete.
