    A project - anyone interested?

    Hello,

I am currently teaching Science at a bi-lingual school in Northern Thailand.

I am teaching to grades 1, 2 and 3 (kids ages about 6-10 years old).

Anyways for the last period of every Friday we have 'club' in which teachers organise various clubs (which last a whole term) and students choose which club they are interested in.

Now for next term I am interested in starting a body-movement and light martial arts club.

I am thinking about using Cheng Hsin type playful exercises to explore partner dynamics in a very light martial sense..... and I was thinking about using basic Intu-Flow® and body-flow exercises to explore some body movement.

I have decided I will only have about 10-15 students max, and I will only let grade 3 (9-10 year olds) participate for now.

My project offer is this, as I am no instructor and am just working myself through the CST material.... I get 50 minutes per week to do this.

I was thinking it might be nice to warm up with some basic Intu-Flow® and vibration/relaxation stuff.... play a few partner games and then work on a body-flow exercise. Perhaps just one exercise per week and then towards the end start giving them a chance to make their own chains.... see what happens.

As kids this age are generally pretty mobile, it shouldn't be too hard with fear reactivity, more about the coordination.

I'm just wondering if any coach or instructor out there might be interested in working very simply with me.... just helping me with a simple progression for each body-flow exercise that both:

    1. helps me get it!
    2. makes it easy to show the children the mechanics.

    anyone interested?

I can blog in the 'training group' part of the forum, etc.

I get no extra pay for this, it's a part of my duty as a teacher.

If RMAX thinks this is a bad idea, well I can just stick to the Cheng Hsin portion instead.

    Thanks for reading.

    Damian,

Which BodyFlow BME's are you interested in teaching? I think the concept sounds like fun. It would be pretty cool to get the children doing traveling BME's like in the BodyFlow DVD.

The only thing I have found with teaching my kids is that their attention span is real short, and they quickly want to sophisticate it into there own original movement. That in itself is entertaining

Yeah the travelling ones would be great.... I have the body-flow DVD's and book so the reference material is there....

however some instructors have done great jobs of breaking an exercise down even further to really grok it, this is what I am interested in both for myself and for ease of teaching.

I have 18 weeks to teach so about 15 exercises would be good to go through one each week..... it could be a good oppurtunity for an instructor or coach to write progressive examples (like Jasons recent leg-swoop example) for all to gain value from.

I understand the short attention span so I would like to keep it smooth... which is why the progression all the way up to the end result.... and then time to let them run with it and have a play.

That's the point after all? To ensure these kids learn it's ok to play, to explore with ones own body and hopefully I can even get some of them to save themselves from the crippling, stiffening I went through myself as I stopped exploring and got older.

    Damian,

I think this is a great idea. I have done some of this very work with that same age group. Anything that involves travelling across space or engaging the ground is great fun for that age.

I would be happy to help out however I can with this project.

One think I found was a good way to get kids moving creatively was to give them an impediment. For example: You must travel from here to here, but only your right hand and left knee can touch the floor. That sort of challenge gets them processing kinesthetically.

Let me know what I can do to help.

    Thank you Slade, Joseph.

It doesn't start until next term, in about 4 weeks.... so I'll be in contact just before then for more ideas.
