    Intermediate Wrist Issues...

    Hi

I am having trouble with the wrist exercises at the intermediate level of Intu-Flow®... my mental picture of the shapes from the DVD seems more like boxes than figure 8s. This is based more on the verbal directions, as I don’t seem to be able to work out the shapes visually even when watching at ¼ speed.

From my notes for the first “figure 8”…

    outside (pinky forward)
    inside (thumb forward)
    top (knuckles down)
    outside (pinky forward)
    inside (thumb forward)
    bottom (knuckles up)
    outside (pinky forward)
    inside (thumb forward)
    top (knuckles down)...

I am picturing the exercise as more like a box missing one side than a figure 8(in this case, a box with the outside edge missing), as when I change from top to bottom I am always on ‘inside’, if that makes any sense.

When I reverse the exercise, I am then creating a box with the inisde edge missing.

The next variation seems to me to be a box with the bottom edge missing…

    inside (thumb forward)
    bottom (knuckles up)
    top (knuckles down)
    outside (pinky forward)
    bottom (knuckles up)
    top (knuckles down)
    inside (thumb forward)...

When I reverse the movement, I then picture a box with the top edge missing.

I’m not super co-ordinated, and often have trouble working out changes of direction from video (the top to bottom arm swings also bother me).

Have I interpretted these exercises correctly? I am moving the joint and feel I am drecing some movement benefits, but I’d like to get it right.

    Cheers

outside, inside, top, back to outside forms the top part of the figure 8. You can look at it as a box but my wrist doesn't go that way. It forms the circular motion while going from inside to top.

And this forms the bottom part of the figure-8. The next two steps you listed where moving back into the top part again.

So its really, initially, half circle on the top, then half circle on the bottom. And then change direction so that your going outside to inside before going top/bottom.

    inside (thumb forward)
    bottom (knuckles up)
    top (knuckles down)
    outside (pinky forward)
    bottom (knuckles up)
    top (knuckles down)
    inside (thumb forward)...
Your missing a step on this. Since we are looking at the horizontal figure-8 now, try this instead: top, inside, bottom, top, outside, bottom back to top to repeat. half circule on the inside, half circle on the outside.

When you start smoothing out the motion of these half circles they start taking on a figure 8 appearance.

    Thanks Steve.

I haven't done today's practice, but just playing around with the movement it feels much smoother.
