    ankle injury

Hi!About 5 months ago I had ankle surgery due to a condition I believe is called osteochondritis (a hole in the joint caused by synovial fluid going thru a rupture of the cartilage and "eating up" the bone) apparently caused by a sprain maybe 10 to 20 years ago.The hole was large (over 13 mm).It has gradually filled with bone, being recently, less than a 1/4 in size and filling up.Took some P.T.ROM is OK,but low pain is still there.Must wear insoles and ankle brace to walk.No fast walking and stair climbing is painful.Doctor says "you have to live with it and adapt".In younger days I practiced Judo and Jujitsu and boxing and a sport not known in US called "salto del pastor"(sort of jumping down hills with a long stick).I do not particularly remember ever having my ankle (left one) sprained. My question is: among you youngsters is there anybody with a similar condition that overcame it? Any tips on re-hab? Regular physical therapy is insufficient (in my opinion).Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated.
    Thank you and keep safe

    Hernan,
5 1/2 months is not really that long ago when you consider that you are healing from a surgery. Take as much physical therapy as you can get your doctor to order. Make sure you follow their advice and remain under their care until you are released and your doctor has said that you have reached maximal therapeutic improvement for your condition. Healing takes time, sometimes a very long time, and progression can be very slow. Take advantage of the expected slow progression by learning joint mobility exercises that bathe your joints in synovial fluids, recover joint motions, and help to restore full body fascial integrity.

Get your physcian's approval before starting any exercise program other than the one your physcian or PT prescribes.
