Yoga For Spies Part Five
Enjoy!
hello,
coach hurst, just read the five parts of "yoga for spies". it is an interesting situation. the need for fitness and stress relief balanced against a lack of schedule and extraordinary stress levels.
also interesting that within FlowFit®, you are able to construct a program that can address these issues.
"yoga for spies" got the mind thinking about personal schedule and stress of daily life. this was an eye opener. upon examination of time management, found that there is far more time available to maintain or improve fitness than previously thought. part of this is due to the fact that FlowFit® does not take several hours (or even a full hour) to do.
also began to evaluate "stressors". everyone feels stress. but while looking inward at this, discovered something. the CAUSES of stress are very very different from the SYMPTOMS of stress. often times, we (humans) view a situation as a problem, when in fact it is merely a symptom of a problem.
at any rate, this "moment of introspection" was different. instead of thinking in broad, general terms, the thinking was about very specific things (for a change!). learning and implementing cst (very little of it so far) has forced a pattern of thinking incrementally, about very specific things (like goals).
yoga for spies seems to be an exercise in thinking in increments about very specific things in order to achieve the desired outcome (in this case, an outcome previously thought impractical?).
as a "logic exercise", going to revisit some of these threads periodically, and attempt to apply "the point" of the thread to current cst training. might help to stay focused.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANYWAY..... nice article coach hurst.
thanks
Coach,
Yoga For Spies, a great series. Thank you!

Thanks, Coach Hurst! This has been a tremendously helpful series. I look forward to the video.
Thanks! I really love doing this variation based on FlowFit®. So much now that I am teaching it in all of my classes. I can't stress enough how great of a program FlowFit® is. If you aren't using it you should be.
Be on the lookout for the Yoga For Spies video. I plan on having it up soon.![]()
When I've played with FlowFit®, I've added 'phrases' from the Prasara flows, and now, the elements from 'Yoga-for-spies'. I laughed out loud watching the video that accompanied Tri-Quad-Rock. Not because it was funny, but because the 'pistol' style Rock-Up was among my first variations to FlowFit®. Also, the rock-up to Quad press was a variation of another move I learned from Mike Mahler....
I do like FlowFit®, and all the things you can do with it. I've had so much fun adding little phrases and so on that I was completely taken aback by the discussion of doing 20 cycles in 20 minutes. What? Do the flow 'as written' 20 times in a row? What a novel concept?!?
Seriously, I'm headed out of the country for an extended period, and I expect that Forward Pressure, FlowFit® and the Yoga-for-Spies will form the basis of my training while out and about.... (And yes, on a another trip I did repititions of FlowFit® + Forward Pressure as a single sequence for time......)
Sorry, just my own terminology. Here's an example from one of the Prasara flows..
Quad Press to Sit out (the simpler level than leg swoop in FlowFit®)
to Side Plank to 1-legged Downward Dog then scorpion to whatever
or
Spinal rock (FlowFit®) to plough to shoulder bridge to plough ( borrowed from 'diving dolphin')
Is that a little clearer?
sakinney,
Thanks for those variations. And I am glad that you enjoyed the YFS series.
Just a quick note for everyone. As I wrote in the first part of the YFS series make sure you focus on FlowFit® for an extended period of time before moving on to new variations. This Yoga For Spies flow was not just some random variation that I came up with. There were specific reasons for me using FlowFit® as the base for this new 'flow'.
I am sure that there will be plenty of questions as to those reasons. I will not touch on those here. Those have been covered elsewhere and maybe I will bring those back to attention with a feature article.
For now just know that FlowFit® is the solid base for which you should build your house of Prasara yoga upon.
Coach Hurst,
Heard, understood and acknowledged.
Thanks particularly for the performance 'road-signs' in the YFS series. In a couple of cases, they taught me a lot about poses that I thought I 'knew'.
