I'm kind of surprised that this conversation has gone on so long without an official answer.
Was the grip changed by design or did RonP receive a defective product?
Has anyone contacted customer service? http://www.rmaxi.com/hesk/

The pictures Ron S Jr. posted show what mine are. I won't post more pictures.
I haven't contacted customer service. I don't want to return mine. I thought RMAX deserves better than a repost of a statement from customer service.
I know business has to be tough. It is all over. That is partly why I made this purchase. Didn't really need more. Figured I could go to doing more. I've bought a few things in recent years from RMAX mostly to patronize. Have DVD's I haven't worked up to yet. This has done me so much good. I want to support this.

One thought I have is that the metal cut grip was the second choice originally?
    Still no answer.
I am partly interested because I still have clubbells I could buy. A pair of 20's, one 35, a pair of 45's. That will be all of them. I don't know that I would ever have a use for more than one 45. I would like to know what I may be buying and why? I'd still like a suggestion on what I can put on the grip to make it the same as the others I own.
When I started this. I was stretching it to own one pair of 15's. Now I can, so I have more.
I know Coach Sonnon must be extremely busy with the Olympic Team. That, and fitting in other training seminars.
I hate to see any lack of RMAX. I have seen Coach Sonnon evolve this info all the way to spoon feeding our minds what to do in the tacfit products. This is the only place I have run into truly smart physical training. Real understanding of what is going on. Not just another parrot mentality, generic system, lacking answers.

I asked the help desk about the crinkle coating on the grips. They said they didn't know exactly what it is. Did say the crinkle coat was not put over a criss cross cut metal grip like the new one. It was put on a smooth handle. They did say all the clubbells are now the metal grip.
That was the best they could do to help with info.
I did pick up one of the last 45's with the old grip. I cut it open at my managers office. Just to throw away the box on the way to my apartment. She asked about it. I told her; "We're playing caveman".
