    Training Middle Schoolers?

I have been chosen to teach a group of middle school student judo over a months time period.

I told them, "I don't know Judo", but my instructor thought I could do it.

So, of course, I will introduce ground work and practice SPP and Bodyflow.

I will also introduce the concept of the "triangle point", locking arm and power transfer, driving, mobile leg, the concept of JMC and a couple of leg fencing tools.

Is this too much? Or the incorrect content?

    Thanks,

    Robert

    Robert,

The games in LEG FENCING are perfect for kids to learn! Pull them aside individually as they discover principles and then reinforce them with the 'secret.' Pull hard-learners (like I was) aside, and share with them how to transform weaknesses into strengths (though understanding a particular principle.)

Keep it fun and creative - something you do brilliantly!

robert, please just keep it fun. teaching kids that age is tough (i have 2 boys that age who do judo). my kids enjoy playing not learning. they have more fun during warm up that during class. my kids could care less about triangle points, power transfer, etc. you need to come up with fun drills that will teach them these principles without them knowing. my kids enjoy doing moves like the scorp, leg creeps, frog hops, etc. when i run the warm ups in class, i have them run relay races doing various Body Flow movements.
    good luck (you'll need it)
let me know what you come up with

    Scott,

Those drills in "Leg Fencing" are ideal!

My friend, I think that is the key!

    Thank you,
