So, I got the email and pm that I should intro myself before lurking. And here goes...
I spoke with Coach Sonnon very briefly at the 2003 Arnold Expo, I was intrigued by the Clubbell® concept, but chose the wrong lead-in question. Being a blunt fellow I leaned in and asked, "So why are these things better than buying a sledge from the hardware store?" To which Coach Sonnon replied, "Go buy a sledge", and turned to the next guy in line. Not exactly the response I was looking for, but probably my own fault. I grabbed a catalog and a business card and drifted on down the aisle. clubbells dropped below the training radar.
I continued as I had before, training with bodyweight calisthenics everyday, along with intense grip training, and getting in the gym 3 times a week for whole body workouts (Oly-lifts with some old-time odd lifting thrown in). And making good progression (weight moved increasing, feeling very fit, injury free)
I got married over the summer and my wife is trying to get in better condition to keep up with me. She's by no means overweight, just not as active as a farmboy who went to Parris Island. She's pretty intimidated by the gym/lifting heavy, so we start doing BW stuff together, and she's really improving. Being one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children, I'm always looking for ways to take things to the next level, and I remember clubbells. Talk to her about it, show pictures of the lovely Miss Rustick, and she's sold.
So here I am, researching the whole CST thing in preparation for the day I've got some spare change lying about to buy our first clubbells.
Thanks for the informative forum, and for sticking through the long post.
