South Asia Tsunami Crisis Relief Fund Collection

I feel compelled to exert what influence we can to help this race to save lives.

At this point it's not recovery, but rescue. More than 1/2 million are injured and 5 million homeless. One of the greatest concerns now regards water purification and of course, food and medical supplies.

People who had little now have nothing. Anything will help. Think of how much we have. The price of a coffee ($5) can provide an emergency health kit for one person for three months, with medical supplies and drugs to cover basic health needs. The price of dinner and a movie ($88) can provide a basic family water kit for ten households, with detergent, soap, wash basin, towels, bucket and water purification tablets. Only $188 can provide one "School-in-a-Box" kit containing basic education supplies for 80 children during times of crisis.

Please post. I'll take a collection and then get it to UNICEF as I receive the donations. You can send a check or money order payable to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to:

We call ourselves a tribe, but we are members of the largest tribe on the planet - humanity. Let's share our abundance to help this desperate, desperate human tragedy. No amount is insignificant, and it is impossible to over-react in our aid.

    Contributing to your efforts also.

    Good on you, Scott,

We are doing something similar out here also.

However, please get Nikolay to start yours off with $20 via my Amex ( he has all of my details).

Someone's getting something going in this office, but I'm not gonna wait for them to pull it together, so I'll send a check today to RMAX.

So here it is again: Another horrendous lesson that we mostly live in blissful, sometimes arrogant ignorance that the Earth is an unfinished process, and as much horror and devastation as the human race can inflict on itself and other species, it pales when compared to what our own planet can, might, and probably will do to us.

We could take ALL the resources used to wage war and fuel conflict, turn them to efforts to safeguard humanity against the natural disasters that WILL occur sooner or later, and it still wouldn't be enough. Mostly, world leaders and other global "policy makers" seem to have difficulty understanding the obvious: The Earth doesn't need humanity to keep it going, humanity needs the Earth!

    Jean,

One only needs to see the international disaster relief effort to witness what you say is true. Political policy becomes sidebarred to such a moral imperative to help such monstrous devastation. Yes, if only we could show our "policy makers" the need to focus all of our national efforts towards help, but I would wish that it would not be through such poignant object lessons.

At least what we can do is lead the way for our politicians to learn from our lead... so that one day they may discover how to, and then DO, lead us.

    Randell,

Knowing how much you stretch your finances to help so many, humbles me.

Okay, this is creepy. Two days ago I cashed a check I'd recently gotten mailed for a catering job last month.

    For $188.00.

Guess I know where THAT money's meant to go...

    Randell,

Per your request your credit card is charged for $20.00.
Those funds will be mailed to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.
    Thank you.

I'll review finances and send a check out on Monday.

Frankly, anything I do feels so small in the face of such overwhelming devestation. I have to stay focused on the possiblity that one or two individuals could be helped as a result of my contribution.

A gift of prayer and/or heartfelt meditation (whatever one's belief system) - seems in order.

    Cody,

I feel the same way. The good news is regardless of what we can do to help, people are only ever helped one at a time. To help even one person...

By the way, check your email, amigo.
