    Learning style quiz

    I found this little beauty in a martial arts FAQ. Although it doesn't do what the FAQ claimed it would (ie: tell me much about my 'martial arts learning style'), I still found it interesting. The quiz itself was fun. More to the point, the 'study style' recommendations were *exactly* how I groked onto doing things anyway. For me that gives it at least a veneer of respectability

    So, for your amusement:

    http://www.vark-learn.com/english/pa...=questionnaire

    My score came out thusly

    > Your scores were:
    > Visual: 3
    > Aural: 3
    > Read/Write: 2
    > Kinesthetic: 7

    Being that I spent the first 25 years living 'in my head', I have to admit this was quite a pleasant surprise

    Though it might be fun to see if / how your CST practice has influenced the way you think about things.

    Re: Learning style quiz

    BTW - from their FAQ

    http://www.vark-learn.com/english/page.asp?p=faq

    Are my modality preferences fixed and unchanging?
    No. The evidence points towards multi-modality with age and experience- but not in all cases. Some learners maintain their profile even through into their third age". In the short term (say, a year) your profile may change a little but major preferences will still be emphasised. You will not switch from a Read/write preference to a Visual preference overnight. Typically, your scores on a particular mode may rise or fall by 1 or 2.

    Will life experience change my preferences?
    Probably! Some students report that when they were younger their VARK profile would have been different and that it is their exposure to different life experiences (travel, recreation, work, and relationshipsÖ) that would have made that change. VARK is a relatively "young" inventory and sufficient longitudinal studies havenot been done to be sure about that.

    That was interesting...

    * Visual: 3
    * Aural: 5
    * Read/Write: 2
    * Kinesthetic: 3

    Those were my scores. Although if you asked my wife, she'd swear I don't listen that well.

    Well that was fun, Bob. Eerily spot on for the study strategies. the few times I have done the whole enchilada of studying "visually" the information just seemed to fly into the head and stick.

    > Visual: 6
    > Aural: 2
    > Read/Write: 3
    > Kinesthetic: 5

    I think I like CST so much just because it hooks into more modalities, for me. I can't remember any other movement I studied that was other than kinesthetic. But here, we have diagrams and words and theories too.

    * Visual: 4
    * Aural: 1
    * Read/Write: 1
    * Kinesthetic: 7

    John, before you say anything about listening, just remember women are more sensitive. I don't have to listen, I can see and feel what you are saying

    Oh man, I'm never going to hear the end of this one...

    Very interesting.. no surprise to me about the Visual, but the rest were higher than I anticipated:

    Visual: 6
    Aural: 7
    Read/Write: 7
    Kinesthetic: 5

    I'm definitely a multi-media kind of guy.

    Looking back on the classes I've taught (CST and otherwise), I can see how I generally use a mix of approaches to get the point across. I'm somewhat sensitive to what coaching method people respond to, and tend to adapt my approach depending on the person/people I am working with.

    This questionaire is a good self-assessment for coaches, as you will probably feel most comfortable instructing others within your own preferred learning method. The challenge is to overcome that preference and be able to effectively tap into any learning method as needed.

    That was a fun quiz.

    My results were;

    Your scores were:
    • Visual: 5
    • Aural: 6
    • Read/Write: 5
    • Kinesthetic: 7

    Like Jason, I am also a multi-media guy. Being a teacher I guess it just shows that I want to cover all the bases before doing something. Or at least I would like to think that.

    I have so many students and when going through this quiz I could match certain students to certain answers. Interesting.

    No surprises for me

    Visual 2
    Aural 5
    Read/Write 4
    Kinesthetic 2

    So Multimodal Aural/Read-Write.

    Your scores were:

    Visual: 2
    Aural: 1
    Read/Write: 3
    Kinesthetic: 7

    Funny that read/write was so low for a writer... But all those years of martial arts must have ingrained the kinesthetic..

    Then again, I guess I learned to write by throwing myself into it, "learning by doing" :wink:
