    Some assistance please

    Hello,

I am trying to lose about 20 lbs. I was 210 lbs but have dropped to 189 lbs.

    Stats:

    Age: 31
    Height: 5'7
    Weight: 189
    Body Fat %: 28 %

I have been on the slim fast meal bars for about 3 months which consists of 1 meal bar for breakfast and lunch w/snack in between meals and a regular dinner. It does seem to be working as I have seen alot a change in my body. I have been doing Strongfortism (4-5 exercises per lesson using 5 lb db's and combining all previous lessons together as you progress through the weeks. New lesson every 2 weeks.) I am on week 10 of a the 20 week program. I just got my club bells this week so I haven't had a chance to incorporate it into my routine.

Basically, I was looking for some guidance and wisdom. Slim Fast bars have not been bad as they have been working so I am not really sure if continuing on this diet will cause me to lose the wrong kind of weight or is working the way it should be. Any information is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Luis

    Llara,

    2 main issues to adress.

    1) Slim Fast bars - your's losing weight due to the caloric restriction on the plan. Problem is, unless you plan on eating those things forever, you will eventually need to transition to food. The bars are high in simple sugar and additives and low in protien. They probably don't adress the eating issues that got you to your original weight. I would advise you start cutting all simple carbohydrates from your diet, which include those bars. Pick up a copy of the NHE diet book or Ellis' book or Paleo for that matter. A couple eggs, some nut butter, a low carb protien shake will all give you a better start then the bar.

    2) Not familiar with your workout plan, but get on those CBs ASAP. Volume is key for weight loss. Look through the workout planning section and the Program logs( particularly at Tom Grow and Connie's logs) for good weight loss oriented plans.

Congrats on your progress thus far -nothing to sneeze at - but I think you need to transition from "being on a diet" to changing your diet to get to and remain at your target weight. ll

I agree with Bill too. I would guess that those bars are, or will, cause "losing the wrong kind of weight." Simply because the protein is not the best quality or quantity and the sugars are a metabolism-killer. I wonder if you can get adequate protein for your workouts without a megadose of sugar.

You might laugh but if you like a bar-type thing, I have used plain old slices of meatloaf (homemade with good meat, eggs, and oatmeal filler). Voila, real food you can eat in your hand out of a baggie.

The other thing that got me in trouble with bars & shakes was it just delayed learning to make good food and it kept anti-nutritive sugars in the lifestyle for way too long.

    Thanks

That was great advice. I have been meaning to stop the slim fast bars since it is getting real boring. Which diet would you guys recommend over the other. NHE, Ellis, or Paleo diet? I am pretty much up to anything to lose those extra 19 lbs. Are there some good websites to get more info on these diets so I can get a headstart reading prior to buying the books? I will defintely get to work on those clubbells.

I still haven't ordered the CST book/video but will definitely get them ASAP. For now I am pretty much doing exercises found in the site until I get the book. Tom Grow's and Connie's logs are great and seem to be exactly what I am looking to do with clubbells.

    Thanks for the info,
    Luis

Get the NHE, a really good backround of the whole low-carb diet, not hard to stay on etc....

I agree with Bill - go with NHE. You wont be sorry. As far as websites go:
www.extique.com - The Official NHE Website
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...alEnhancement/ - yahoo group dedicated solely to the NHE eating plan.

If you have any questions in regard to NHE, feel free to ask.
